At NTA, our mission is clear: "Developing kingdom leaders." This development requires a purposeful plan to prepare students for success in the college or career they are called to after high school. As an essential part of spiritual growth, we guide students in applying fundamental Christian doctrines to all future life decisions, especially those related to post-high school planning.
Academic Advising Goals
In the Academic Advising Office at NTA, our goals are to:
Provide Guidance: Offering guidance, resources, and support to parents and students as they navigate the path to college and careers.
Seek God's Will: Emphasizing the importance of seeking God's will for the next chapter through prayer and direction.
Proverbs 16:9 - His Unique Plan
Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) reminds us, "In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps." Each student's journey is unique, and our resources are designed to assist in common steps while recognizing the individuality of God's plan for each student.
Resources and Support
The Academic Advising Office provides a variety of resources and tools to aid in the planning process. While we offer selected resources from reputable platforms like College Board, College Foundation of North Carolina, and Fast Web, our office is here to provide individualized support, direction, and encouragement through a licensed experienced school counselor.

A Message from Mrs. Tara Smith, Academic Advisor
I am Tara Jackson Smith, and I am honored to serve as NTA’s new Academic Advisor for grades 8–12. With 20 years of experience in K–12 education, including teaching high school English and most recently third grade at NTA, I look forward to helping students discover and pursue their God-given purpose.
As Academic Advisor, I will partner with students, parents, and teachers to support academic success, course planning, and college and career readiness. My door is always open for questions, concerns, and conversations about your child’s goals.
My leadership preparation includes participation in the Institute for Community Leadership and completion of the Aspiring Assistant Principal Leadership Program while serving in Cumberland County Schools. My experience in human resources and personnel support also strengthened my ability to serve families, support educators, and manage school responsibilities.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Administration. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University and also serve as NTA’s Head Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheer Coach.
Your children are precious gifts from God, and I am grateful to be part of their journey. My prayer is that each student feels seen, valued, and encouraged to find their voice and use it with courage, kindness, and conviction to glorify the Lord and further His kingdom. Whether speaking up for others, sharing their faith, or encouraging a friend, their words can reflect Christ’s love and make a lasting difference.
Thank you for allowing me to walk alongside your family. May God guide our decisions as we nurture your children’s gifts and help them prepare for the future with faith and confidence.
